NGO Catalyst Professional Fundraising Training Spring Session Wednesdays May 4th – June 8th, 10am – 2pm, 24 hours

NGO Catalyst’s general course is unique in that it provides comprehensive tachlis skills –  that people typically only learn from years of on the job experience and many people never learn at all: like how to set up your files and spread sheets, what financial records you need to keep and how, what giving vehicles are and how to manage them, prospect and wealth assessment research websites and how to access and read foundation tax documents, private donor cultivation and stewardship protocols, and more. This course is excellent for those already working in the field but who have never had any formal training as well as for those totally new to the field and looking to just get started.

Job search and networking assistance is provided for all course participants. Continued mentoring can also be available for the first month after job placement.

The course is taught by NGO Catalyst founder and director, Rachel Canar, who has more than 20 year of experience in the field.

This class teaches everything you need to know in how to actually do the work –  not just basic grant writing. Rachel explains what you need to do on your first day, your first week, your first month on the job. Grant Writing – Making Your Proposals Stand Out


This writing workshop will review the key components required in all grants and teach the style of writing required for grant proposals which NGO Catalyst calls “distilled”. Specific areas of focus will include: making the case, mission, goals, measurable objectives for evaluation, how and when to use story-telling and more. This class will teach you to write the kind of proposal that the donors want to see and special tricks that make your grant stand out as a winner not a loser. Participants will have the opportunity to write in class, including peer review, and get feedback from the instructor, Rachel Canar, founder of NGO Catalyst. The class will include examples from a wide variety of writers and NGOs and teach how to write clear, well organized and compelling grant proposals.

Research for Major Donor Prospecting & Wealth Assessment

This is information and skills that you cannot miss if you want to be successful at fundraising. The most important of all the courses- this is a must so we are offering it at two times and even on-line!

This class teaches you where and how to identify potential new major donors using on-line research tools of public information on foundations as well as private donors. In addition, you will learn how to assess what size donation you should request from them. We will review a variety of research websites, how to glean critical information from foundation tax documents, determine private donor giving potential and inclination and more. Plus we examine how we find potential donor names to begin with.

Fundraising is made much simpler by using spreadsheets. Whether you are using Excel to track your daily work, keep track of donor prospects, make sure you reach your targets and deadlines; creating your program budgets for grant proposals, financial planning, or even using as your donor database, this computer program is central to so much of our work. Mastery of this program, formatting, sorting, short cuts, formulas, graphs and tables can save you hours of work and take your work to a much higher professional level. This class is a must for all fundraisers in order to be a manage all of your data and not waste time trying to do math! Regular Excel courses are much more expensive and are not tailored specifically to your daily uses. This class has been priced at a special discount because I really want you all to learn Excel!

USAID – Learning to “Crack” the USAID Code and Write a Winning Proposal

Do you fundraise for coexistence, peace, cross-border, or Jewish-Arab programing? You think you can manage a $1Million United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project but you overwhelmed by the USAID application process and lingo. It could be that you have applied and been rejected in the past.

This six hour course will provide you the keys to successfully obtaining funding from the USAID Conflict Mitigation and Reconciliation Program, including writing a winning proposal.

Crowdfunding and Advanced Social Media Marketing

Taught by Yuval Klain, Director Minuf Digital, and Rachel Canar NGO 

This course teaches how to create and implement a successful crowdfunding campaign including which platform to use and how to specifically craft your content to capture readers’ attention and make them want to donate. Additionally, this course will cover advanced social media marketing, how with money invested you can dramatically grow your following and make posts go viral, and then how to use this community to raise money on-line. Yuval is a PPC expert and the Director of Minuf Digital where he conducts successful internet campaigns, and digital marketing for many Israeli NGOs.

Orientation to the Jewish Diaspora for Israeli Fundraisers

More than 90% of all funds raised by Israeli NGOs are provided by Jewish Diaspora communities. These Jewish communities outside of Israel that are built around Jewish community institutions and philanthropy which is a central component of Jewish life in the Diaspora. Understanding these communities, their institutional structures, their culture of giving and priorities is critical in order to succeed at fundraising in Israel. For Israelis this is all quite foreign, and this class with explain it all.
